Week 1: Line – Let’s Make Our Mark!

Featured Artist: Wassily Kandinsky (Abstract lines and movement)

Objective: Children will explore different types of lines through hands-on activities.

Lesson Plan: Introduction (10 min) Watch video about Wassily Kandinsky Discuss different kinds of lines (straight, wavy, zigzag, curvy, thick, thin).

Activity 1: Sensory Line Tracing (15 min) Draw lines in sand, shaving cream, or salt trays. Yarn lines (explore wavy & curved lines)

Activity 2: Line Walk (10 min) Use painter’s tape to make different lines on the floor. Have kids follow the lines by walking, hopping, or crawling.

Activity 3: Kandinsky-Inspired Line Art (20 min) Provide paper, markers, and paint. Let children draw different lines and fill spaces with colors.

Wrap-Up (5 min) Discuss their favorite kinds of lines. Display artwork in a “mini-gallery.” At-Home Idea Make a “line dance” by moving in zigzags, spirals, and loops!
